Ethics/Deanna Schlosser cases
In response to the Deanna Schlosser posts, I think that anyone who does not see the religion connection to this case, the Yates crime and so many others, is simply being close-minded. The religion that they took part in, that which they became obsessed with, was not purely Christianity, but something with cult elements. There have been a variety of television and radio specials surrounding the Andrea Yates case and the man who she avidly listened to had very disturbing references, which included giving children to God when they fail to follow parents' direction. That may have not been verbatim, but it was very close to the quote on television.
I agree that those who had actually taken part in the criminal acts had mental illnesses, but I also think that any degree of mental illness, combined with brainwashing-type evangelistic rantings, simply strengthens their misguided beliefs. What better proof that you are not insane, than an evangelist preaching bizarre mis-interpreted bible references? It would be perfect justification to someone who is bordering on insanity.
Protecting Christianity is fine, but you must take into consideration exactly what is being taught in the many sub-religions which exist in Texas and a number of other States. Religion, when used for personal gain and self-justification, can be extremely dangerous.
